Year of the Constant Reader : 2009

Year of Constant ReaderIn 2009, designating that year as the 'Year of the Constant Reader', Cork City Libraries celebrated its constant readers — the people who borrow books and who use other library facilities on a weekly or even daily basis, those whom libraries depend on — with a year-long programme to promote reading in all its variety and, just as important, to say a big Thank You to our constant readers.

We welcomed some of the biggest names in writing during 2009, including Joseph O’Neill, whose novel Netherland was subsequently named as one of President Obama’s favourite reads, Jan Morris, one of the world’s most acclaimed travel writers, Michael Holroyd, Val McDermid and others — but there was much more to the Year than author visits.
