Alending home pagedult Lending

Our largest collections of books for home borrowing are held in the Adult Lending department of the Central Library, Grand Parade

This department also provides a range of audiobooks on CD and tape, and a selection of video DVDs.  Fiction and nonfiction books in this department cater for a wide range of interests.  Our large-print book collections are very popular among readers with sight impairment.  We also have collections of books suitable for readers with literacy problems.

Renewals:  Do you want to renew an item you have borrowed?  When returning an item you can ask for other items you have borrowed to be renewed.  When not in the library you have the following options:
•  Renew items online through our Catalogue, provided you have collected your four-digit PIN (personal identification number) at any of our libraries.
•  E-mail your Name and 14-digit barcode (and ideally your borrower 5- or 6-digit borrower no. written on your card) with your request to renew your items (no need to list the items) to lending_library@corkcity.ie
•  Speak directly to a member of staff by telephone at 021 4924909, but please remember that items cannot be renewed by leaving a voicemail message.

Self-service
On 9 September 2015, self-service for checking in and checking out books was introduced on the ground floor in the Central Library, with three kiosks in the Lending department for use by that department and the Music department, and one kiosk in the Children's department. With these kiosks, borrowers can control the circulation of books quite independently of staff. This allows staff to devote more time to dealing with your enquiries and with developmental work. Self-service is available in Douglas Library since 23 June 2015 and in the new Hollyhill Library since it opened on 1 July 2015, and it will be phased in throughout our other libraries on a phased basis during 2016–17.
